We use Meetups multiple times a week to check in as a group, I have moderators who help me run the members area, and I've found that those who are engaged in the community area are more likely to renew their subscription.

Stay accessible. I use this as a way to provide feedback on "homework" and I personally lead the weekly meetup twice a week.
